Australia is extremely dry, with about 35 percent of the country receiving very little rain (if any). The Simpson Desert is 56,000 sq. miles of rock and wind-blown sand dunes. It receives very little rain and summer temperatures often exceed 120º F. Though brutal for humans, the desert itself is far from lifeless.
